Economic Drivers

Our two-county region has a wide diversity of opportunities for businesses and would-be employees.

Long known as an agricultural center, northwest Illinois farmers benefit from great soil, a favorable climate, and multiple transportation modes (river, road and rail) to move their bounty to market. Local fertilizer producers and distributors complement a robust agribusiness environment.

Manufacturing has a visible presence in many of our communities. Taking advantage of river, rail and highway corridors, manufacturers provide an essential economic stimulus to the region. They also provide opportunities for local young people to work near families and friends.

Rural America depends on thriving health care systems to provide essential medical services. Our tri-state area is served by multiple hospital systems, many independent physicians, dentists and therapists, as well as senior living residences and home care agencies. Jo Daviess and Carroll counties offer multiple health care options and fulfilling career opportunities.

The region's natural beauty and its relationship to the Mississippi River attracts tourists from throughout the country, and indeed, the world. Each of our communities have embraced the economic opportunities afforded by the hospitality and tourism sectors. Small businesses, restaurants, B&Bs, golf and ski resorts, wedding venues and artisans thrive on the region's more than one million visitors annually.
