Manufacturing Day Tours
Manufacturing Day is an annual national event executed at the local level supported by thousands of manufacturers as they host students, teachers, parents, job seekers and other local community members at open houses, plant tours and presentations designed to showcase modern manufacturing technology and careers.
In celebration of National Manufacturing Day 2018, area manufacturers open their doors in October to more than 250 students from area high schools as part of an effort to inform students about today's manufacturing environment and draw attention to the outstanding opportunities that a career
in manufacturing can provide. High schools participating include Galena, Scales Mound, East Dubuque, Warren, Stockton, River Ridge, West Carroll and Eastland. Activities include touring seven local manufacturers, including Signcraft Screenprint, East Dubuque Nitrogen Fertilizers, Cotton Expressions, MacLean-Fogg/Metform, Lemfco and Elkay. Students also attend Work in The Real World, held at Jo Daviess Carroll Career Technical Education Academy (CTE).
While events were put on hold in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, NWILED anticipates reviving the program in 2021, incorporating virtual tours to accommodate more students.
